1. General Information
a. The World University Netball Championships (WUNC) will be held in Kampala, Uganda from 17th September – 21st September 2018
b. The Singapore University Sports Council (SUSC) is forming a Singapore Team to compete in WUNC 2018
c. On behalf of SUSC, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI) will initiate and facilitate the trials and selections.
d. Interested athletes would need to send in their entry forms to Joan Catherine, Joan.Catherine@nus.edu.sg by 24th January 2018.
2. Eligibility
a. Any student (pursuing a diploma or degree) between the ages of 17 to 28 are eligible to represent their country at the WUCs. The age limit for the 2018 WUC is 25 years old. Athletes must be born between 01 January 1993 and 31 December 2000.
b. Students who have graduated within 1 calendar year of the World University Championship (WUC) are eligible to represent their country at the WUCs. For WUNC 2018, students who graduated after January 2017 are still eligible to participate.
c. Students based at overseas universities can be considered on a caseby-case basis.
d. Only students holding Singapore citizenship may represent Singapore at the WUCs.
3. Selection Panel
a. The WUNC 2018 Selection Panel shall comprise 3 selectors; the WUNC Head Coach (who will convene the selection panel), the National Opens Head Coach and an independent selector. SUSC reserves the right to vary the make-up of the panel from time to time.
b. When selecting, the selection panel shall apply the competencies, personal qualities and other considerations similar to selecting the Singapore National Open and 21&U squads and teams as those listed here .
4. Selection Process
a. The WUNC Squad, normally consisting up to 18 players, shall be named at the completion of trials. The exact trial dates will be advertised on the SUSC or NYSI website and communicated to all SUSC Members as well as Polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education who had earlier expressed their interest. Trials will be open to all players who are eligible and who are endorsed by their respective educational institution.
b. A further selection of 12 players will be done in June 2018. This will be confirmed on a later date closer to the selections.
c. Exceptions may be granted to eligible players based overseas, those with study commitments, injuries or illness.
d. The Selection Panel reserves the right to add and replace the selected athletes from the WUNC Squad, where it believes selection is warranted, in the event of injuries, disciplinary issues or other unforeseen circumstances.
e. A player must be given a warning prior to being replaced outside an official selection so as to provide sufficient time for a player to make the required changes.
5. Player Requirements
a. Players must fully comply with SUSC, WUNC, INF Rules, Regulations and Policies.
b. Players must fully comply with all WADA requirements and complete the necessary documentation and keep it updated as requested.
c. Players must maintain a level of fitness, skill and performance consistent with the requirements of being a national representative.
d. Those selected in the WUNC Squad must make themselves available for the WUNC training schedule which will include: court-based training, strength & conditioning training and sport science assessments, workshops and training camps conducted by NYSI.
e. Upon acceptance on to the programme, the player and/or the player’s educational institution shall bear full cost of participating in the WUNC 2018 as well as the preparations leading up to WUNC. This cost is currently estimated to be about $3,000 per player and includes, airfare, attire, WUNC participation fee etc. Players interested to attend the selection trials should check with their respective education institutions with regards to any available subsidies without which, the player (if selected) is required to foot the full cost.
