The National Youth Sports Institute provided support in the lead up to the Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship. The championship is scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 2-7 September 2019.

Two nights before the 14 youth athletes departed on 31 August 2019, their parents attended an NYSI sharing session on how to support their child better at competitions.

Shermaine Lou, NYSI Sport Psychologist, shared evidence-based research on parenting styles, while Merey Tan, NYSI Athlete Life Manager, presented travel information about Mongolia, as well as nutrition advice for training and competition.

As parents are key stakeholders in a young athlete’s sporting journey, the NYSI session was to help parents understand the psychological and nutritional needs of their child.
